WEEK
5- November 29, 2004
Okay the week 5 update…..well
start off with fact that somewhere between weeks 3 and 5 their poop
developed SMELL. Venus has said “the heck with this, they
are all yours now you clean up the pen”! She is, and
has been in incredible Mother, I couldn’t ask for more. She
loves her time away from them but heaven forbid I’m a minute
late with their meals, they let her know and she lets me know. She
is really good and patient with the puppies, she is beginning to
teach them different things, one is mastering the muzzle grab. The
first time my husband saw it I thought he was going to have a breakdown.
He started yelling "Nance, Nance she is trying to bite
the puppies"…….I just laughed at him and said
don’t interfere they are getting their lessons. Joe has gotten
much better now, he doesn’t panic as much.
The puppies have met three of
the five other dogs that run my household. First there is Wicce
(Lilli/Angus) she is wonderful with puppies. They try to nurse and
she does her best to accommodate them but…..no milk! Then
there was my 11-year old Golden named Cagney--she just looked at
them as they all rushed her, looked at me and I swear she said “you’ve
got to be kidding me…..their not staying are they? You already
have 5 dogs too many!” Then my biggest surprise came
when I had three of the puppies out of the x-pen and my 7-month
old, Coco (Jessie/Sirius) came in from outside. The look on her
face was priceless…"look at all these toys…and
they move and make noise too……cool!" She was
so very kind and gentle with them they would follow her around the
kitchen and if one strayed away too far she would hurry up and herd
them back in with the rest of the group. She very gently nudged
them with her nose and of course I didn’t have the video camera
handy. They still have to meet Kalli (Sage/Grizz) and Remy (Foxy/Blue).
The puppies are eating four
times a day and just about four cups of soaked kibble, meat, yogurt
and a little bit of supplement. In the past two days I’ve
started adding about a half a cup of kibble that has not been soaked
and they are doing really good. I know for a fact they DO know how
to use their teeth! They are starting to exhibit displays of dominance
over one another and it is the funniest thing to watch. I love when
I hear all the growling and snarls coming from the pen. They have
started to stalk and kill their toys now, they are taking this very
serious but when they start to shake their kill to hard they fall
over and get mad. And then one will jump on another one thinking
"ha ha I’ve got you" and then tide turns
and they are the ones on the bottom. And then the victor of the
scuffle will turn to one of the puppies not even involved and give
them a little nip as if to say, there’s more where that came
from so don’t even think about messing with me.
The Navy male loves his food
and the food pan; we usually have to move his sleeping form from
the pan so we can clean them. Then there is the Wine female she
runs back and forth between the two pans just to make sure they
both have the same stuff in them. The Silver male is a player and
loves to be held, everyone could be playing but he wants to be picked
up and cuddled, he talks a lot also. The Green and Cream males are
really laid back…we call them the twins because they look
so much alike. The Cream male likes to try and be the dominant one
over everyone, that is until the Lilac female has had enough of
him and she give him what we like to call “a tune up”
other wise known as an attitude adjustment. The Mint female and
Ice Blue male are buddies they like to hang out together and play.
The Ice Blue male is really funny when we add new toys to the pen.
He’ll circle it to the left just eyeballing it, then to the
right, and then he’ll give a quick look around and then jump
on it. I love that there could be four new toys put in the pen at
once but they each want the toy the other one has…I find this
amazing at their age.

They are making a road trip
to the vets on Saturday for their 6 week checkup. I can’t
believe how quickly the time has passed. I’ve enjoyed every
minute of it so far, except for the smelly poop but that comes with
the territory. Be back next week with another update and I hope
to get new pictures up very soon. |
